Welcome to the research group of Dr Dmitrii V. Kalinin at the  University of Galway. We are a medicinal chemistry and drug discovery group focused on the design, synthesis, and biological evaluation of small molecules targeting serine proteases, with a strong emphasis on blood coagulation and thrombosis.

Our research aims to develop next-generation therapeutics, particularly safer antithrombotic agents and treatments for rare diseases such as hereditary angioedema. In parallel, we work on the structural elucidation of key human coagulation factors, including factor XIa (FXIa), factor XIIa (FXIIa), and plasma kallikrein, to enable structure-based development of safer anticoagulant therapies. By combining structure-based design, microscale synthesis, and direct-to-biology screening approaches, we seek to accelerate the discovery of bioactive compounds and expand the chemical space of drug-like molecules.
